19th century Lrg Framed Tibetan Thangka depicting
Four-Armed Avalokiteshvara
Item #: BNT3366 Our price: $3800.00 |
Absolutely beautiful piece with provenance. 19th century
Tibetan Thanka. This authentic piece dates from the mid to
late 19th century and features a complex iconographic
assembly centered around Avalokiteshvara (Tibetan:
Chenrezi), the Bodhisattva of Compassion. A four-armed
Avalokiteshvara seated on a lotus and moon disc. He holds a
wish-fulfilling gem to his heart, a crystal rosary, and a
white lotus flower. Vibrant though aged, my photos don't due
justice due to glares, sorry.
Surrounding dieties:
Top - Amitabha (Buddha of Infinite Light) flanked by two
additional representations of Chenrezi.
Bottom left: Manjushri (Bodhisattva of Wisdom) wielding a
sword.
Bottom right: Vajrapani in his wrathful form.
Center bottom: A Stupa (Chorten), the architectural symbol
of Buddhism
Approx. measurements: 22.25" wide by 30.25" tall framed
As is expected, the piece shows hones wear and distressing
consistent with its history; according to the included
documentation, this indicates it was likely used by nomadic
people, rolled and unrolled frequently for ritual use. The
reverse side features a red consecration symbol. This is
mentioned but framing done before our purchase so no picture
of this. This was professional mounted in a gold toned frame
with a neutral mat that complements it. The canvas is
silk/canvas.
Very large piece that will be packed extremely well and insured. Please be sure to ask any questions you may have. Thanks for visiting.
