Details

Ancient Arabic Order of Nobles of the Mystic Shrine - El Zagal, located at in Fargo, North Dakota, was founded December 14, 1890 and received its charter on June 23, 1890. El Zagal ranks as the 51st Shrine Temple according to the date of the charter. (Information via www.elzagal.org)

This wonderful early cabinet card photograph gives us some fascinating history for both the El Zagal Shriners of Fargo, North Dakota as well as for the town itself.

I have spent a great deal of time trying to iron out the photos many historical clues. The signs read as "Resolved El Zagal, ain't in it with this - Hort" and WE LOST can be seen on the back of the injured persons cart. There is a sign that is faint but I read Smear ???

Note the horse has pant legs both front and back. There are drummers as if this was a parade. Children, young and older and many men, but no women. The building in the background is clearly marked, Imperial Elevator Co. Lumber & Coal Doors & Sashes. Hoping this helps with identification. The year has to be between 1890s to 1900 as the El Zagal was not started until 1890.

Maybe you know of this fun gathering, if so, please help me with the description. Regardless .... again, outstanding piece of history for both town and Shrine. This large cabinet photos measures approx. 14" by 11" with board. Very good condition with some water staining to the board. Does not effect the photo itself. Would be great matted and framed. My watermarking is not on actual photo. .
