Antique Civil War Era Double Tintype Photo In
Basketweave Union Case c. 1860s
Item #: BNT3432 Our price: $130.00 |
A beautiful piece of history. An authentic mid-19th-century keepsake featuring two facing portraits, probably husband and wife. Both tintypes, housed in an ornate double-sided union case. American Civil War era (circa 1858–1865).
The woman wears a classic period dress with a high white collar and prominent front buttons; the gentleman is featured in a dark suit with a sharp bowtie.
The case shows a striking, crisp geometric exterior with a deep basketweave pattern, central shield motifs, and elegant quatrefoil scrollwork framing the edges. Hardware: The original metal hinges are intact and fully functional. There are no manufacturer stamp.
Very good antique condition, showing only minor wear for its 160+ year age. The portraits show beautiful contrast. The woman’s image displays some minor horizontal lines and light surface emulsion flaking across her forehead due to age, which does not detract from the overall historical appeal.
Approx. case dimensions: 1 inch closed height. 3 inch by 2.5 inches square.
Estimated plate size: 1/6 plate.
