1940's Vintage Lonesome Skookum Papoose ~ Excellent Shape

Authentic Skookum papoose in a bright red felt bed with a red and beige cabin or camp
blanket surround on the babies head.

Small pale green feather on the head and out of yellow bead on the bed. It's eye's are looking
to the right and would be appropriate if it's mother were there. These baby Skookum's were
made in the 1930's and 40's for the tourist trade. Poor little lonesome thing....

This measures approx. 7" tall without the pale green vinyl strap.  Very nice early piece for your collection or gift.

Vintage Bakelite Hard Plastic Advertising Pipe ~ Signed INDIAN Souvenir 1940's ?

Purchased years ago by a woman who has passed now, for her Native American collection, this is a very interesting and fun pipe. I can't find another like it.

Note the bottom portion unscrews and there is a small piece of foam inside. Does this mean it was for bubbles?? Doesn't appear to be used. The top is showing a small circular hole with a brass lining. When I blow on the end it seems to be going completely through...no worries, I washed the mouth piece well ;)

There are some other thoughts....Red Man Tobacco? Indian Motorcycle? Who knows for sure.

This measures approx. 2.5" T by 5.5" L. See photos and email with any questions.

Vintage Native American Indian child's doll all leather handmade, beaded, and yarn hair c. 1940's / 50's

Purchased years ago by a woman who has passed now, for her Native American collection, this is a very interesting child's doll with yarn hair and cloth scarf.

This approx. 11 inch doll is believed to made in the Southwestern Indians. Her face is all leather and it appears to have no hands. Believed to be soft buckskin, hide, leather encompasses her clothing and leggings. Her eyes are little black beads or buttons. Her nose is a raised piece of the stitched leather

She is wearing a traditional dress with fringes and a fully beaded necklace, and around neck. Beaded mouth as well. There is yarn framing her face which I believe is to be her hair and a black cloth behind. I could be mistaken and that may be her hair.

These type dolls were sold in Northern Arizona in the early 1940 and 50s. She's unique doll, and well taken care of.

1960's Mid Century Universal Statuary Native American Man and Woman 3D Wall Art

These are what I was told to be a pair of Universal Statuary Chicago, IL items.

Highly detailed and beautiful Native American wall sculptures.
Makers marks show on the edge.

These must be very similar to the Vanguard Art. The sculptures are made to appear to be made of a real heavy wood, but actually are very light for itís size due to the material used in the production.

Looks like this company was in business from 1930 - 1970's. Many collectible and interesting piece's of art with an artist by the name of Vaughn Kendrick in the 60's doing a lot with the western theme. Cowboy's and Indians.

Perfect for the mid-century, rustic, cabin room. They come ready for hanging. Perfect conversation pieces and Universal Statuary collector pieces.

Approx. Measurements: Height 30 inches x Width 20.5 inches. See photos and email with any questions prior to purchase.

Fine Inuit Cambridge Bay Carved Native Eskimo In Canoe Kayak w/ Spears, Paddles, Stone Base ~ Signed

This hunter is in his kayak or canoe with a double sided paddle and items that may be considered spears. Not sure but the tips of these long items fit in two very well carved hold downs or holes at the front of his kayak. His hands are curving around something that appears to be a small seal? tied down in front fo him.  The well carved kayak has two decorated ends, the man comes out to show he is held in by a carved attached peg.

Here's the deal. Quite a while ago I was lucky enough to purchase an estate with many rare and fine piece's of Inuit art. I have never known for sure if this beautiful carving belonged with the black stone base, but it looks nice on top of it and has the appearance of a fin or tail coming out of water on the stone. With that, the original priced tag underneath with the artist Tom Kootik of Cambridge Bay, may not even be the actual carver of the kayak hunter. Selling together regardless. None of my other items seem to be missing this base. Note the label underneath states Eskimo Art Canada.

Measuring approx. 6" long by 1" high.

All of the carvings and artwork from this estate appear to have a historic value for the collector. There may be some fine scratches but believe to be a (rare) piece that has some good age. Please see pictures for condition details.

Photographs Native Americans Minnesota.

All three are 8 by 10" - what I believe to be photo prints of originals. They were made I was told in the 30's - 40's. They are marked in the far left lower corner. Frames are identical early Victorian and some have wear. Wooden back boards that are somewhat complete.  See photos.

Hoping that someone can put these in an attractive setting. They are beautiful photos.

                                        basket lidded basket

Original card's left in basket from which it was purchased years ago

Very nice early woven basket from the Yucca plant's leaf fibers by the Papago Indians of Arizona now known as the Tohono O'odham People.

A small quip via the internet: With regard to arts, the O'odham have gained a reputation for their fine basketry. The first evidence of the commercialization of O'odham basketry was seen in 1900 when the basket weavers began incorporating yucca into their baskets. Yucca is scarce and is used only in baskets which are intended to be sold to outsiders. In addition, they began making coiled baskets for the tourist market.

This was originally purchased and owned by a woman who was a seasoned collector and has since passed away.

19th c. Native American Framed Beaded Art American Beauty mulberry c 1920 Chippewa

We purchased this years ago and were told this is a Ojibwa, Chippewa seed bead artwork done by a woman in the 1920's from Cass Lake MN.

Placed in a frame early on by the family to preserve the piece. The American Beauty is a Berry (or known as French Mulberry) that was used by the Native American's for Medicinal purposes. They used root and leaf tea in sweat baths for rheumatism, fevers, and malaria. Root tea used for dysentery, stomach aches. Root and berry tea used for colic.

The seeds and berries are important foods for many species of birds, particularly the Northern Bobwhite. Foliage is a favorite of White-tailed Deer. Absolutely beautiful work and coloration.

This is in very nice condition. Framed and behind glass. Measures 12 x 15.5 inches.

1950's 10" Skookum Doll w/ Camp blanket

This is a very nice 10" vintage 1950's Skookum Indian doll. She is with plastic boots that show a bear paw on the bottom,
perhaps advertisement for the boots.

She has a lovely cotton blanket with bright reds, greens and blues. She is a later example of the Skookum souvenir dolls.
